Goa — Goan Kunbi Drape

1. Goan Kunbi Drape: The Kunbi saree derives its name from the ancient tribe of Goa. It is characterized by a checkered pattern, often dyed in shades of red. Traditionally, the Kunbi saree is worn without a blouse, draped around the waist, and tied over the right shoulder. Historically, these sarees were commonly worn by women working in paddy fields, typically reaching until the knees.

2. Dhangad saree drape: The Dhangad saree, also referred to as the shepherd’s drape, is a popular choice among women in North Goa. This saree is worn sans a petticoat. It involves tying a knot at the waist and pleating it akin to the basic saree drape, with the pallu draped over the left shoulder. Subsequently, the lower portion of the saree is brought from the front to the back, resembling a dhoti style, while the pallu is tucked at the front waist. Alternatively, the saree can be tucked on both sides of the waist and the remaining fabric at the back, resulting in a knee-length attire, providing ease of movement for women engaged in various activities.
